Lida was their last chance for an uncolonized planet. But a global fungus had colonized it first. Agetha and her husband have spent their entire lives in the zero-G of the fleet. Now everything is turned upside down when the fleet lands, discovering that they are surrounded by a single fungal biomass covering the entire planet. To build a new home, the fleet must confront a dangerous organism, and Agetha must decide if she can raise a family in this inhospitable landscape. Jane Brighton exercises tenuous control over the colony and its administrators. She and the other genetically engineered leaders emerged from their suspended animation for four hundred years to find a crew very different from the one that left Old Earth. Jane must lead the fragile growth of the colony and defend it from being crushed by the fast-growing biomass. But there is something that no colonist knows. The massive organism sprawling across the planet is not simply a fungal mass, or even a chimerical combination of species that once roamed the planet. The biomass has desires and goals, and one of them is to know these strange beings that take up residence within it.

William C. Tracy is a native of North Carolina and a longtime fan of science fiction and fantasy. He holds a master's degree in mechanical engineering and has designed and operated heavy construction machinery. He is a video and board game enthusiast, a beekeeper, a reader and of course a writer.
Adi Cabral is a classically trained actor, dialect coach, and intimacy director with an MFA in Theater Performance from Arizona State University. As a professor of theater, voice, and movement, their research focuses on inclusive training practices for LGBTQ-identified actors.
