Our stone house renovation got really messy!
When you embark on a stone house renovation in your spare time, sometimes you need to change your plans once the project begins. Renovating a house without experience means you are taking on most of the tasks for the first time and therefore greatly underestimate how long it will take! Your renovation schedule starts to fall behind, the seasons change, and you need to adjust some of your original ideas for quicker ones to try to get back on track. In our case, we decided to rebuild the top of the stone walls with red bricks (tijolos in Portuguese). The exposed brick was always going to be temporary, but we weren't prepared for the controversy it would cause!

Let me tell you, there have been some strong opinions about them, but this week they will disappear as we start making our little house – DIY style! *SPOILER ALERT* Things are going to get complicated!

Even though we are focusing our efforts on the small renovation of the house, that does not mean that progress stops in restoring the rest of our abandoned farmhouse. We've given our vegetable garden a much-needed upgrade with a simple drip irrigation system, and a reluctant Teddy and Poppy are taking a bath to wash away the dirt after many long days playing on the farm!

————-

We are Ricky and Victoria. We are slowly bringing an abandoned off-grid Portuguese farm back to life and transforming it into a beautiful farm for us and our two rescue dogs Teddy & Poppy.

We both agree that we're not experts in everything we do here, but that doesn't stop us from trying. We live our lives trying. We live our lives by doing. We live our LIFE LIVING.
