Unbeknownst to the famous Jedi Master, the launch of the mission is secretly orchestrated by an unlikely ally: the evil Sith Lord Darth Sidious, who has his own reasons for wanting Outbound Flight to move forward.
However, Darth Sidious does not pose the most dangerous challenge of the mission. Once en route, the ship crosses paths, at the edge of unknown space, with the forces of the alien Chiss Ascendancy and a brilliant mastermind named Thrawn. Not even Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, aboard Outbound Flight with his young padawan student Anakin Skywalker, can help avert disaster. What begins as a peaceful Jedi mission violently transforms into an all-out war for survival against staggering odds and the most evil of adversaries.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Timothy Zahn is the author of more than forty novels, nearly ninety short stories and novellas, and four collections of short fiction. In 1984, he won the Hugo Award for best short story. Zahn is best known for his Star Wars novels (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command, Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future, Survivor's Quest, Outbound Flight, Allegiance, Choices of One and Scoundrels), with more than four million copies of his books in print. Other books include the Cobra series, the Quadrail series, and the Dragonback series for young adults. Zahn holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Michigan State University and a master's degree from the University of Illinois. He lives with his family on the Oregon Coast.
