Partitioning an Empire: The End of the American War of Independence, 1782–83
In 1781, Lord Cornwallis surrendered his army to George Washington at Yorktown. Over the next two years, British and Allied diplomats were engaged in negotiations over the fate of the weakened but not defeated British Empire. Allied diplomats, despite the initial advantages gained from Yorktown, soon found themselves on the back foot as British naval strength recovered and the prospect of bankruptcy grew ever closer.

This video is intended to be a short documentary retracing the negotiations that ended the American War of Independence.
