The Socratic method is a form of argumentative dialogue based on asking and answering questions to elicit underlying ideas and assumptions. In this talk, Peter Boghossian, former professor of philosophy at Portland State University and current founding faculty member at the University of Austin, explains how he designed a model using the Socratic method as a central element of speech. He speculates on the role of dialectical processes, critical thinking, corrective mechanisms for testing beliefs and assumptions, and behavioral dispositions, and explains the method of his conversational technique known as "street epistemology" to promote the reflection.
