Peter Hook 2016 Full Interview Part 1
It's been 40 years since Peter Hook founded Joy Division and became a pioneering bassist in an era-defining band. After the suicide of singer Ian Curtis, the remaining members formed New Order and transformed their sound from raw post-punk to dark electronic dance music. In 2007, Hook left the band under bitter and controversial circumstances, and since then the former bandmates have been embroiled in a verbal and legal dispute that Peter acidly describes in the second part of this interview with the journalist and creator of " MTV's 120 Minutes, Dave. Kendall.
Here, in part one, Hooky describes the emotional and technical challenges of performing Joy Division and New Order's /"Substance/" compilations on his current North American tour, how he found himself in front of the mic with his son Jack on bass, and what it's like to recreate an intoxicating era… sober and cold.
