The summer of 1865 marked the transition from the Civil War to the Indian War on the Western Plains. While the rest of the country's attention was still focused on the East, the U.S. Army launched an often-forgotten campaign against the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho. Led by General Patrick Connor, the Powder River Indian Expedition in Wyoming sought to punish the tribes for raids earlier that year. This mini-documentary depicts the movement of troops through hostile territory while battling bad weather, supply shortages and communications problems.
