Georgia Ede discussed this during our 3-day Virtual Lipedema Heart to Heart Conference – The Science of Hope: A New Dietary Approach to Mental Health Issues. She is a Harvard-trained and board-certified psychiatrist specializing in nutritional and metabolic psychiatry. Her passion is enabling people with psychiatric disorders to reduce or eliminate the need for medication by changing the way they eat.

His current job is to figure out what changes are worth making and why. Dr. Ede co-authored the first study of the ketogenic diet in patients hospitalized for treatment-resistant mental illnesses, developed the first medically accredited course on ketogenic diets for mental health practitioners, and had the honor to be named the recipient of the first prize from the Baszucki Brain Research Fund. Annual Metabolic Mind Award. Her new book, Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind, was released this year.

In this video, Dr. Ede honestly expressed that she doesn't know much about lipedema, but in this topic she clearly explained that more than half of people with lipedema, at least according to one study, suffer symptoms of depression.

And this certainly makes sense, especially since lipedema has a major inflammatory component and inflammation is a major contributor to depression. If you have inflammation in the body, it is very common that you also have inflammation in the brain, even if you cannot see it or feel it happening, because the brain does not have nerve endings and you can do it. I can't see through your skull, so you can't see if it's red, swollen or painful. But when we have inflammation in the body, we often also have inflammation in the brain.
