With many new attacks on the Second Amendment at the federal, state, and local levels, this special session examines these threats and how to protect your right to self-defense. Indeed, the Democratic Party's leading candidates for the presidential nomination are unanimous that your constitutional right to keep and bear arms should be radically reduced, and in many cases, eliminated altogether. In response, Stephen P. Halbrook (senior fellow, Independent Institute) and Amy E. Swearer (senior legal policy analyst, Heritage Foundation) discuss “Protecting the Second Amendment /” (02/27/20) at the conference conservative political action. Stephen P. Halbrook is a senior fellow at the Independent Institute. He taught legal and political philosophy at George Mason University, Howard University, and the Tuskegee Institute, and he received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and his Ph.D. in social philosophy from Florida State University. The winner of three gun cases before the United States Supreme Court, his work was cited in the landmark Heller and McDonald Supreme Court cases on gun rights.

Amy E. Swearer is a senior legal policy analyst at the Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at the Heritage Foundation. She received her J.D. from the University of Nebraska School of Law and worked in the Lancaster County (NE) Public Defender's Office. She recently testified before the Virginia State Crime Commission about the Virginia legislature's attempt to radically restrict gun ownership.
