Restoration of Evergreen Cemetery

Evergreen Cemetery is a historic African American cemetery located in Richmond, Virginia, established in 1891. There are more than 10,000 plots in Evergreen, most of which have been overgrown in recent decades. In 2016, the Virginia Outdoors Foundation launched an effort with the Enrichmond Foundation and a team of community leaders and descendants to conserve and restore the cemetery. We completed an open space easement in December 2018, paving the way for one of the largest restorations of a historic African American cemetery in the country.
