Sapolsky focuses his research on neurology, issues of stress and neuronal degeneration, and protective strategies and neurotransmitter research. His specialization in human behavioral biology contributes to the further development of mental health, relationships and evolutionary traits.
Sapolsky advocates a deterministic view of human behavior. According to him, "there is no free will, or at least there is much less free will than is generally thought when it really matters." He argues that human actions are and can be determined. by hormones, neurobiology, childhood and other life circumstances.
