Sartor Resartus is a satirical novel by Thomas Carlyle, first published in 1833–34. The book is presented as the fictional autobiography of a German philosopher named Herr Teufelsdröckh. The structure of the novel is complex and fragmented, and it is full of Carlyle's characteristic humor, wit, and wisdom.

Sartor Resartus is a philosophical novel that explores themes of individualism, alienation and the search for meaning in life. The novel is divided into three books, each dealing with a different stage of Teufelsdröckh's life.

Book I: /"The problem/"

Book I by Sartor Resartus focuses on Teufelsdröckh's youth and education. Teufelsdröckh was born into a wealthy family, but he was a rebellious and introspective child. He is dissatisfied with the conventional education he receives and begins to question the values of his society.

Teufelsdröckh eventually leaves home and goes to university, where he continues to struggle with his own beliefs and values. He is attracted to the ideas of romanticism and idealism, but he also finds them ultimately unsatisfying.

Book II: /"Clothes/"

Sartor Resartus Book II is Teufelsdröckh's spiritual autobiography. In this book, Teufelsdröckh describes his journey from despair to faith. He goes through a period of deep depression, during which he comes to believe that life has no meaning. However, Teufelsdröckh eventually awakens to religion and he comes to believe in the goodness of God and the meaning of life.

Book III: /"Outer clothing/"

Book III of Sartor Resartus deals with Teufelsdröckh's life after his religious conversion. Teufelsdröckh returns to society and attempts to live a life of faith. However, he notes that it is difficult to put his convictions into practice in a world that is often corrupt and unjust.

Despite the challenges he faces, Teufelsdröckh remains faithful to his faith. He believes in living a life full of meaning and purpose, even in a world often hostile to such a life.

Sartor Resartus is a complex and challenging novel, but also enriching. The novel's fragmented structure and use of irony and satire can be difficult to penetrate, but those willing to make the effort will be rewarded with a rich and thought-provoking work of literature.

Sartor Resartus is a novel that will definitely stay with you long after you finish reading it. It is a novel that raises important questions about the meaning of life and offers a profound and moving insight into the human spirit.
