Senate acquits Trump on two articles of impeachment
The Senate acquitted President Donald Trump of both articles of impeachment. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts read the final votes on the two articles of impeachment.
He said: “The Senate having tried Donald John Trump, President of the United States, on the basis of two articles of impeachment presented against him by the House of Representatives, and two-thirds of the senators present did not found guilty of the charges contained therein. : It is therefore ordered and adjudged that the said Donald John Trump be, and is hereby, acquitted of the charges made in the said articles. Before adjourning the session, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell thanked Roberts for his service and awarded him "the golden gavel" for his work. McConnell also thanked the Senate pages who helped keep the debate going during the proceedings.
