Informed by her own experience of homelessness, as well as more than three decades of work as a family nurse practitioner providing primary health care to the homeless, Ensign is in a unique position to explore the tensions between care and oppression, as well as charity and solidarity. that polarize perspectives on homelessness across the country. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Josephine Ensign is a professor in the School of Nursing and an assistant professor in the Department of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Washington. She is the author of Catching Homelessness: A Nurse's Story of Falling through the Safety Net and Soul Stories: Voices from the Margins.
