Many of our aging loved ones want to live at home. But how can we, as caregivers, know that they are safe in their home environment? How do we know they woke up that morning, took their medicine, and didn't fall? How can we accept the wishes of our loved ones who want to live alone at home, while having peace of mind and security? The answer lies in new smart home sensor technologies that give our aging loved ones the privacy they desire, while letting their caregivers know they are safe. These sensors track activity within the home and share these movements with us through our smartphones, notifying us of unusual activity or changes in daily movements. Idea: Smart Home, Safe Home: Making Waves in Home Security While Aging Safely at Home

Ryan Herd is a 30-year veteran of the “smart” industry. He founded and ran a successful Smart Home technology company. His passion for the “smart home” led him to write the book “Join the Smart Home Revolution”, which aims to bring the “magic” of smart technology to consumers.

Ryan's personal experience with his father, who battled cancer twice, gave him an understanding of how the growing popularity of 'Aging in Place' can be greatly improved through our use of 'smart' technology modern.

Ryan is the founder of Caregiver Smart Solutions. Using non-invasive sensors, we can safely and discreetly monitor the activities of our loved ones. This allows us to ask the right questions and determine if we have the appropriate care in place for them, while still allowing our loved ones to live out their “golden” years at home. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
