뉴욕타임스가 주목한 K-문학 /"SNOWGLOBE/"

Hello and welcome to Issues and Insiders.
It's Thursday here in Korea and my name is Min Sun-hee.
Today I have the pleasure of speaking with the author AND translator of a critically acclaimed Korean novel in the United States.
I have Park So-young, the author of Snowglobe, here in the studio.
Thank you so young for taking the time to be here.
I also have Joungmin Lee Comfort, the English translator of the novel Snowglobe.
Joungmin, it's great to have you with us.

1) So young, let's start with a synopsis of your novel.
What is the story about?

2) Joungmin, tell us about your first encounter with So-young's novel.
How did you come to this discovery and what made you decide to translate it?

3) So young, what was the inspiration behind the story of Snowglobe?

4) Joungmin, Snowglobe received many rave reviews in the United States
What do you think is its appeal to American audiences?

5) So young, you address a multitude of issues in your novel ranging from climate change to social inequalities.
Basically, what message are you trying to share with your audience through your story?

6-1) Joungmin, we generally talk about efforts to ensure that nothing is lost in translation.
That being said, what are your priorities when it comes to translating literary works?

6-2) Joungmin, in some cases I understand that you chose to stick to the Korean word like /"Ajumma/" and refer to certain cultural practices like having Miyeok-Guk on birthdays without separate explanations.
Do you want to explain?

7) So young, generally speaking, how do you explain the growing interest in Korean literature beyond its borders in recent years?

8) Joungmin, experts believe that translation seems to play a crucial role in strengthening the presence of Korean literature on the world stage.
What are your thoughts?
And what can be done to strengthen the translation business when it comes to the Korean language?

9) So young, let's end with a few words about your project for this year?

10) Joungmin, what are your plans for the year?

All right.
