Chad's military leader, General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, has been named the official winner of the highly anticipated presidential elections, legitimizing his continued rule. According to provisional data, General Déby won 61.3% of the vote, while his closest competitor, Prime Minister Succès Masra, obtained 18.53%. Chad held its long-awaited presidential election after three years of military rule, and analysts widely expect a victory for incumbent President Mahamat Idriss Deby.
