The Battle of the Boyne, which took place on July 1, 1690 (depending on which calendar you use), was an important event in Irish and British history, marking a pivotal moment in the Williamite War in Ireland. The conflict emerged in the wider context of the Glorious Revolution of 1688, which saw the overthrow of King James II of England and the ascension of William III (William of Orange) to the English throne.

This short video tells why this battle took place and its importance in history.
