The Battle of Yorktown – Revolutionary War
The Battle of Yorktown, fought from September 28 to October 19, 1781, was a decisive victory for the Continental Army and its allies over a British force under the command of Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis. American and French forces, numbering around 16,000 troops, used artillery to bombard British defenses and launched a coordinated assault on October 14. The French navy blockaded the Chesapeake Bay, preventing British reinforcements from arriving, and Cornwallis attempted to escape by crossing the York River. but he could not do it. The British army surrendered on October 19, 1781, ending the war in North America.
