The brutal executions of captured SAS soldiers during World War II
One of the most feared military groups in history is the Special Air Service, also known as the SAS. They started out during the Second World War and participated in many covert missions behind enemy lines during the conflict, but a number of SAS operations did not work out well, and two in particular resulted in the execution of dozens of SAS soldiers. Operation Bulbasket was planned to stop the advance of the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich after D-Day and the Normandy landings, but this resulted in many SAS soldiers being captured and they were subsequently executed by firing squad .

Hitler issued the Commando Order which stipulated that any enemy commandos were to be executed quickly without any trial. Because of this, the British Army knew what would happen to captured SAS men. Operation Loyton also took place in a mountainous region, and the SAS had to weaken the Germans behind their lines before they were relieved by the Americans. But this did not happen and for months many fled the Wehrmacht and the SS, but more than 30 SAS men never returned. Those who were captured were executed inside a forest by firing squad.
