The Evolution of the Stone Age: A Complete Paleolithic Documentary Timeline

The term “Paleolithic” is broad. This period, also known as the "Old Stone Age", spanning from about three million years ago to about eleven thousand years ago, is essentially "the dawn of man" in the sense traditional of the term. This is a segment of our evolutionary history marked by the construction of the first stone tools, made by some of our earliest ancestors on the plains of Africa in the Middle Pleistocene. It extends to the point where the Pleistocene becomes the Holocene and encompasses all of the most dramatic events, technological innovations and spectacularity of the era.

The Paleolithic would eventually become the Mesolithic, where paleontology began to blur the boundaries with archeology and human innovations advanced dramatically. In today's video, however, we will focus specifically on the Paleolithic period, examining several key features of it as a whole: the world during the Paleolithic, its people, its technological innovations, its religion and its structure social, as well as its fauna. We'll cover as much of the world as possible, from the vast plains of Africa to the cold mammoth steppes of Eurasia, the grasslands of the Americas and the deserts of Oceania. Join us on a multi-million year journey through the Paleolithic period.
