The Liverbirds, comprising Mary, Sylvia, Valerie and Pamela, were the first all-female rock 'n' roll group. Despite John Lennon's initial skepticism at the Cavern Club, where he declared that "girls don't play guitars", they took on the challenge. In just five years, they've won over tough crowds at the Star Club, toured stadiums, recorded two hit albums and collaborated with legends such as the Kinks, the Rolling Stones and Chuck Berry.
In their recently published book, /"The Liverbirds/", surviving members Mary McGlory and Sylvia Saunders share their full and remarkable story. The book, published by Faber on March 14 in print and audio, captures a lost era of liberation and rock'n'roll, highlighting their flourishing years in the vibrant Merseybeat music scene. It is also the story of a lasting friendship that spans decades.
The Liverbirds made their return in late 2023, welcoming Molly-Grace Cutler and Lisa Wright, known for the hit Liverpool musical /"Girls Don't Play Guitars/". The band recorded their new album in Hamburg, where it all began, as well as in Brighton. The first single, /"Diddley Daddy/", is mixed and mastered in DOLBY ATMOS, promising an exciting experience for fans and audiophiles. The Liverbirds revival coincides with the revival of the musical in September 2024.
