Narrated by Ronald Reagan, this special episode of "The Big Picture" from 1960 presents a portrait of one of the great generals of the 20th century: George S. Patton. Produced by the Army Pictorial Center.

This is the story of a soldier who lived for action and glory and who rose to greatness while serving his country. This is a piece of contemporary history dedicated to the life of General George S. Patton, Jr., whose Third Army swept across the European continent. It is a mirror reflecting Patton's major principle for fighting battles or war: attack, attack, and when in doubt, attack again. From a strictly visual standpoint, General Patton's selected combat footage provides insight into the man's character. No American leader has been more colorful and successful, stepping forward like an old-time warrior to lead and inspire vast human forces. While the basic elements of /"The General Patton Story/" are combat sequences, the documentary film delves into the general's life with details as intimate as his inability to spell, despite being a cadet model at West Point. Believing in staging, he was aware that if the act could not be carried out brilliantly, men would see through it. The “old man” always pushed his men harder than anyone had pushed them before.

The results were always better than they could have expected. For a commander who was so obviously a winner, they would do the impossible. Patton is a study in duty, patriotism and loyalty.
