The end of Appleby
by Michael Innes
Publication date 1982-04-10
Dramatization of the 1945 detective novel.
Appleby's End was the name of the station where Detective Inspector John Appleby got off the train from Scotland Yard. But that wasn't the only coincidence. Everything that happened from then on was linked to the stories of Victorian novelist Ranulph Raven: animals were replaced by marble effigies, someone was given a tombstone telling them when they would die, and a servant was found dead, buried up to his neck in snow. Why were the mysterious descendants of Ranulph Raven so insistent on inviting Appleby to spend the night at their house?
