The Liverbirds were an all-female rock band from Liverpool, England, active between 1963 and 1968. They achieved commercial success primarily in Germany with residencies at Hamburg's world-famous Star Club on the Reeperbahn. The classic line-up included Valerie Gell and Pamela Birch on vocals and guitar and the rhythm section consisted of Mary McGlory on bass and vocals and Sylvia Saunders on drums.
Within the thriving Merseybeat scene, they stood out as one of the few female groups and pioneered all-female rock'n'roll bands around the world. Their name was inspired by the iconic liverbird, symbolizing their beloved hometown, Liverpool. Although primarily known for their covers, they have also had several self-penned hits.
