Beginning in 1915, between 500,000 and 1.5 million ethnic Armenians living in Turkey were killed or expelled from their ancestral lands, where they had lived in peace with the Turks for centuries. Armenians call this massacre a genocide; Turks say it is the consequence of a larger war, in which many groups, including Turks, suffered terribly. Five of the few remaining Armenian survivors reflect on the horrors they faced when they fled their country as children and what life was like in exile.
