A long time ago, according to the Storyteller, the evil god Torak sought to dominate and pushed men and gods to war. But Belgarath the Sorcerer led men to recover the Orb that protected the men of the West. As long as she was in Riva, the prophecy said, men would be safe.
But it was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magical misfortunes, even though the dark, shadowless man had haunted him for years.
Raised on a quiet farm by his Aunt Pol, how could he know that the Apostate planned to awaken the fearsome Torak, or that he would be led on a quest for magic and unprecedented danger by those he loved – but that he didn't know?
