The Pleistocene era
The Pleistocene era is the geological epoch that lasted from approximately 2,580,000 to 11,700 years ago, covering the most recent period of repeated glaciations of the Earth. Before a change was finally confirmed in 2009 by the International Union of Geological Sciences, the boundary between the Pleistocene and the preceding Pliocene was considered to be 1.806 million years before present (BP). Publications from previous years may use either period definition. The end of the Pleistocene corresponds to the end of the last ice age and also to the end of the Paleolithic age used in archaeology.
