Now I have a rather difficult thing to say here.

On the one hand, it is not true that we will lose our personal differences by being caught up in Christ. On the other hand, I don't think Christ can take charge of us as long as we worry about what will happen to our personality.
Can I address the first point first?

If a person didn't know about salt, wouldn't they think that something with such a strong taste would kill the taste of every other thing in any dish you put it in? We know that it actually brings out their true taste. Well, it's a bit like that with Christ.

When you have completely surrendered to his personality, you will then, for the first time in your life, become a real person.

He created the whole world! He invented – like an author invents characters in a book – all the different men you and I were supposed to be. Our “true self” awaits us, so to speak, in Him. What I call “myself” now is practically no longer a person. It is primarily a meeting place for various natural forces, desires and fears, etc., some of which come from my ancestors, some from my upbringing, some perhaps from demons. The self you are truly meant to be is something that lives not from nature but from God.

At the beginning of these speeches, I said that there were “personalities in God”. Well, I'm going further now: there are no real personalities anywhere else. I mean no full, complete personality. It's only when you allow yourself to be drawn into his life that you become a real person.

But on the other hand, there is no point in coming to Christ for the sole purpose of developing a more complete personality. As long as that is what you are concerned about, you have not started, because the very first step towards obtaining a “true self” is to forget the self. It will only come if you are looking for something else.

This goes, you know, even for earthly things. Even in literature or art, no man concerned with originality will ever be original. It's the man who only thinks about doing a good job or telling the truth who becomes truly original – and doesn't realize it. Even in social life, you will never make a good impression on others until you stop to think about what kind of impression you are making. This principle is found throughout life, from top to bottom.

Surrender and you will find your true self. Lose your life and you will save it. Submit to death, submit with every fiber of your being, and you will find eternal life. Seek Christ and you will have him and everything else. Search for yourself and you will get only hatred, loneliness, despair and ruin.
