Shirley Jackson (1916-1965) was a master of 20th-century American Gothic literature. His novels and short stories are still widely read, studied and adapted. If you've read Jackson, you're probably familiar with his chilling 1948 short story, "The Lottery." But is this the most disturbing story Jackson ever wrote?
