In an article published in The Observer, a communications theorist from the University of Cambridge described Edge as "the smartest website in the world." This online platform brings together many influential academics, scientists and contemporary thinkers. In this community, some of the smartest people in the world share ideas in online forums. They cover a wide range of topics, such as mysticism, intellectual honesty, the Anthropocene, and naive realism.
But do you know why Brockman, the publisher of this book, founded this community? This was thanks to the inspiration he received from his friend, James Lee Byars. Byars was a philosopher and artist who once said, "I can answer the question, but am I smart enough to ask it?" » As it is true that it is not easy to ask a good question, Byars had the idea of creating the World Question Center. His plan was to invite the 100 brightest minds in the world to get together in one room and ask each other the same questions they were asking themselves.
