The author of more than a dozen books, Dr. Sowell is now a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution. In his latest work, Intellectuals and Society, he will explain why so many catastrophes of our time have been committed by experts or intellectuals. You may remember the FDR Brain Trust which, according to later studies, prolongs depression by several years. The Pentagon whiz kids under McNamara who managed to ruin the Vietnam War, you can go through an impressive list of things, disasters caused by people with very high IQs.
