Voyage of the Sand Venus
Like many, I have never heard of /"Sable Venus./"
I came across this story in /"The Half Has Never Been Told About Slavery and the Creation of American Capitalism/" by Edwar Baptist.
There are many remarkable things in this book; This video is not up to par. But The Sable Venus resonated. Being an artist I look for images, I've never seen one before.
That’s when I came across the New Yorker article: Broken, Defaced, Unseen: The Hidden Black Female Figures of Western Art. If you look closely, you will see that museums are invisible cemeteries.
By Robin Coste Lewis New Yorke Magazine. November 12, 2016

Ms Robyn Coste Lewis says: “It wasn’t just the iconicity of the Sand Venus that grabbed me by the neck. Nor was it the deeply satisfying but ultimately simple pleasure of seeing the White Venus replaced by the Black Venus – as delicious as all that. it is, and it is! — this gesture was too undemanding, towards myself, towards history.

Ms. Coste Lewis and I are sure that you will also be disappointed when you read the poem about buying rape of black women.
Also, it will sound familiar when listening to the lyrics of Lou Reed and Mick Jagger.
