War historians and military experts rate historical battle scenes in movies and television shows for their realism.

Air Force Lt. Col. Matt Ziemann is an instructor at the Air Force Air College, Maxwell Air Force Base. He has been a pilot for 26 years and flew World War II aircraft. He evaluates the realism of World War II dogfight scenes in films such as "Dunkirk/" (2017), starring Tom Hardy, and Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor/" (2001), starring Ben Affleck.

John Curatola is the National WWII Museum's resident historian and a retired Marine Corps officer. He discusses the accuracy of World War II battle scenes in "Saving Private Ryan" (1998), starring Tom Hanks; /"Dunkirk/"; and /"Band of Brothers/" E3 (2001), with Damian Lewis. He also comments on the weapons used in /"Fury/" (2014), starring Brad Pitt.

Garry Adelman, the chief historian of the American Battlefield Trust, evaluates nine American Civil War battles in film. He comments on the Civil War-era artillery and rifles on display in /"Glory/" (1989), with Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington; and /"Lincoln/" (2012), with Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones.

Alexander Watson, a First World War historian and professor of history at Goldsmiths, University of London, assesses the realism of First World War battle scenes from films and television shows. He discusses the accuracy of trench warfare in /"All Quiet on the Western Front/" (2022), /"1917/" (2019), and /"Paths of Glory/" (1957), with Kirk Douglas.

Bill Allison is a professor of military history at Georgia Southern University. It evaluates the accuracy of films about the Vietnam War, such as /"Apocalypse Now/" (1979), starring Marlon Brando; /"Full Metal Jacket/" (1987); and /"Platoon/" (1986), with Willem Dafoe, Charlie Sheen and Johnny Depp. Allison breaks down additional battlefield tactics used by the Viet Cong, or VC, and the People's Army of Vietnam, or PAVN, featured in /"Forrest Gump/" (1994); /"Hamburger Hill/" (1987); and /"The Deer Hunter/" (1978), with Christopher Walken, Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep.
