We have always walked together – The story of Lili Gomboš
Lili Gomboš, born in 1930, lived in Zagreb until the start of World War II. After the outbreak of war, she managed to escape with part of her family from the Independent State of Croatia to Dalmatia, to the Italian-administered territory. From November 1942 she was interned in the Kraljevica camp, then from June 1943 in the camp on the island of Rab. In 1944, she was taken via Trieste to Auschwitz-Birkenau and survived the war thanks to a combination of circumstances. His entire family was killed during the Holocaust, except for his sister Estera who joined the Partisans and thus survived. After the war, Lili returned to Zagreb and, in 1948, she immigrated to Israel where she started a family. Lili Gomboš dedicated much of her time to raising awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust and preserving the memory of Yugoslav Jews.
