What I'm wearing First chapter Friday Read aloud Video with the word Nerd
Friday May 10, 2024 – In this week's Friday Chapter One video, I read What I Carry by Jennifer Longo. If you like books that feature tough characters and touch your heartstrings, you'll love this one. Be sure to watch the entire video to discover the book's secret quote hidden throughout…one word at a time, like a literary treasure hunt.

Personally, I would recommend this book for ages 8 and up. There are some bad words and high school age-related situations that involve physical relationships and drinking. Nothing graphic, but if you're not in 8th grade yet, you might want to wait for this one.

TEACHERS, if you show this out loud in class and want to censor the swearing, I say the word "shit" at 8:39 and "hell" at 11:00. Despite these “warnings,” this book is fantastic and I loved it with all my heart. I hope you enjoy it too.

Blurb: Growing up in foster care, Muir lived in many homes. And if she's learned one thing, it's Pack. Light. Only take what fits in a suitcase. Toothbrush? Yes. Socks? Yes. Emotional attachment to friends? Host families? A boyfriend? No! There is no room for additional luggage. Muir only has one year left before he's out of the system. A year before she was free. One year to avoid anything that could stand in his way. Then she meets Francine. And Kira. And Sean. And everything changes.

Grab your copy of What I Carry from your school or classroom library or if you can't find it there, order it from Alex at my favorite independent bookstore: Birdy's Bookstore. https://www.birdysbookstore.com/. It is also available for purchase on Amazon https://amzn.to/3URHUD8
