What is life like at a British private boarding school? Leaving home at 8
British documentary exploring the emotional effects of boarding school on young children and their torn parents.

There is a cliché that boarding schools exist solely so that wealthy, distant parents can offload the burden of their children in search of fewer responsibilities and a life of luxury. While this may be true for some, like most clichés, the reality in most cases is very different.

At Highfield Prep School in Hampshire, four new 8-year-olds are about to find a new home that could shape the course of their entire lives. All from military families who were constantly on the move, each of these parents of girls decided that living in a stable environment and receiving a top-notch education was the best way for them to grow up. But what kind of emotional strain does this put on both nostalgic children and their yearning parents.
