Who won the American Revolution? : Crash Course in US History #7
In which John Green tells you about the American Revolution. And the revolutionary war. I know we worked on that here, but it wasn't the same. Either way, John will teach you about the main battles of the war and discuss the strategies of both sides. Everyone knows how this war went for the Founding Fathers; they must become the founding fathers. But what did the revolution mean to the American people? For the white male owners, it was pretty cool. They acquired rights that represented a marked improvement over the status of British colonial citizens. For everyone else, the short-term gains were not obvious. Women's rights were not affected and slaves remained in bondage. As for poor whites, they remained poor and disenfranchised. The reality is that it took a long time for this whole democracy thing to happen, and the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness were not immediately accessible to all of these new Americans.
