ABOUT KEN HACKATHORN
Ken Hackathorn served as a U.S. Army Special Forces small arms instructor, firearms site instructor, and NRA police firearms instructor. He is currently an FBI Certified Firearms Instructor, SRT Member, and Special Response Team Trainer. Ken has trained US Military Special Operations Forces, Marine FAST and SOTG units and is a contract small arms trainer with the FBI SWAT and HRT. Ken has provided training to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and has been active in small arms training for the past 25 years. He has written firearms material for Guns & Ammo, Combat Handguns, Soldier Of Fortune and currently American Handgunner and has contributed to at least six other firearms and shooting journals. Ken was also a founding member of the IPSC and IDPA.
ABOUT MASSAD AYOOB:
Massad Ayoob has been the editor-in-chief of GUNS magazine and law enforcement columnist for AMERICAN HANDGUNNER since the 1970s, and has published thousands of articles in gun magazines, martial arts publications and detective magazines. He is the author of more than two dozen books on firearms, self-defense, and related subjects, including "In the Gravest Extreme" and "Deadly Force," widely considered authoritative texts on the subject of the use of deadly force.
Winner of the Outstanding American Handgunner of the Year award in 1998, Mas has won several national and regional pistol shooting championships. Ayoob was the first person to earn the title of Five Gun Master in the International Defensive Pistol Association. He is the current president of the Second Amendment Foundation. He served for 19 years as chairman of the firearms committee of the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, and for several years as a member of the advisory board of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association. In addition to teaching these groups, he has also taught for the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors and International Homicide Investigators seminars.
Mas has received judicial recognition as an expert witness in the courts in weapons and shooting cases since 1979, and has served as a part-time, fully sworn and licensed police officer for 43 years, primarily in supervisor rank. Ayoob founded the Lethal Force Institute in 1981 and served as its director until 2009, and now trains through the Massad Ayoob Group. He has appeared on CLE-TV to provide continuing legal education to attorneys, through the American Law Institute and the American Bar Association, and has been retained to train attorneys to handle deadly force cases by through the legal defense network for armed citizens. Ayoob served for two years as co-vice chair of the Forensic Evidence Committee of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also appeared in every episode of Personal Defense TV (Sportsman's Channel).
