“You may be Prime Minister, but in this Assembly, I am in charge!” : Angry President Hoyle criticizes Boris Johnson
Boris Johnson repeatedly tried to grill Keir Starmer over his past legal work as the two men clashed over sordid reasons during the weekly session. But Speaker Lindsay Hoyle demanded he stop, insisting these were questions directed at the Prime Minister rather than the Opposition Leader. “You may be the Prime Minister of the country, but in this House I am in charge,” Sir Lindsay said. Sir Lindsay also warned the ill-tempered discussion did nothing to restore the House's image following the Owen Paterson debacle earlier this month. Mr Johnson is desperately trying to return to prominence by pledging to ban politicians from working as consultants on the side – which could cost dozens of his own backbenchers significant sums.
